Swimming Coaches

Richard Contreras, Head Coach (Varsity)

Richard Contreras is the Head Coach of the Torrey Pines Swim Team. He has been coaching the Torrey Pines team since 1996, and the head coach since 2003. He has been selected as CIF Division I "Coach of the Year" for the North County Conference three times.

Richard Contreras was a two-year starter on the Sierra College water polo team earning all league honors as a sophomore. He earned All League honors in the 200 Butterfly as a member of the Sierra College swim team.

Richard graduated from California State University, San Marcos with a degree in Latin American history.

Linda Hermann, Assistant Coach (J.V.)

Linda Hermann is a Solana Beach native and began swimming at the age of six for the Rancho San Dieguito swim team. She worked her way up through the groups and swam for the Senior Group throughout all of high school. She participated in the Junior Olympics and Sectionals, and won multiple CIF individual and team titles for Torrey Pines High School. She accepted a scholarship to UC Davis where she culminated her swimming career on eight All-Time Top 10 Lists and four record setting relays. She won multiple Big West and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship titles, and finished off her senior year as the 2011 MPSF Athlete of the Year. She has been a swimming lesson instructor for the Boys and Girls Club for the past seven years, and is looking forward to working with kids again through coaching. She graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Biology, and is currently taking classes and looking to attend graduate school in the future to become a physician’s assistant.
