Torrey Pines High School(TPHS) is a long-standing academic and athletic powerhouse in
San Diego. TPHS was ranked as one of "America's Top 100 Public High
Schools" in the nation by Newsweek and has garnered CIF and league championship titles numerous
times. Many swimmers from TPHS have achieved Scholar Athlete, All-American, All-CIF and All-League
Team awards.
TPHS is a Division I school competing in the
Avocado League against Escondido, Fallbrook, La Costa Canyon, Mission Hills, and San Pasqual high schools.
Along with the Palomar and Valley Leagues, the three form the North
County Conference of the CIF-San Diego
Section (CIF-SDS).The CIF-SDS swimming/diving season begins
in March
and ends with the CIF final meet in May.
Join our team
All swimmers with a sincere commitment and in good
health and academic standing are eligible to participate. Athletes must
be cleared by the Athletic
Department.
In order to get clearance, you
need a physical, carry an un-weighted GPA of 2.0 or better (based on a 4.0 scale in all enrolled courses), and complete the
Athletic Packet forms. Signed forms
were
due February 1, 2010.

Cuts will be made after tryouts on 2/25 and the final roster will be posted on the Athletics bulletin board at noon on the 26th.

Practices
The first practice will be Monday, February 22nd.
All swimmers are expected to show up for practice at Cathedral Catholic High School Pool. Workouts are from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Club swimmers must attend one team practice per week.
The first diving practice will
be on Monday, March 1st from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at CCHS with Coach Casey.

2010 CIF Division 1 Prelims
The TPHS swimmers and divers put themselves in a position to win the CIF-SDS Division 1 championships.
The women head into Saturday's finals with all three relays as the top seeds. On the individual
front, the female Falcons
have swimmers qualified for all 8
events.
On the men's side, swimmers are also qualified for all 8 individual events;
and both the 200 MR and 200 FR teams are ranked in the top 6
for Saturday.
Highlights of the evening include the All American-Automatic cuts made by both breaststrokers,
Kelsey Kafka and Jon Wang.

at 11:00 am on Wednesday and are expected to be
at Coronado HS by 12:30pm for warm-ups. Please

At today's league prelims, Jon Wang clocked an Automatic All-American time of :58.12 in the Men's 100Yd Breast, a time that also sets a new CIF San Diego Section Record. He is headed into Friday's finals as the top seed in the event.

TPHS Vs LCC High
At today's meet against LCC, diver Ryan Gerard broke the San Diego CIF Section's record for 6 dives (242.15). Also notable, the relay team of Allison de Peralta, Kelsey Kafka, Ali Paris and
Nicole Skaggs clocked an All-American Consideration time of 1:49.73 in the 200 MR.
This last dual meet of 2010 rounded out an
undefeated season for the Varsity Women (9-0), both JV
Teams (9-0), and a winning season for
the Varsity Men (7-2). This Saturday, the JV
Women and Men will try to better
their season at Mt. Carmel High; Varsity Teams
begin their CIF title quest at league prelims
next Wednesday at Palomar College.

Catholic and Westview High
The JV Men and Women took 1st in all but 3 events at Wednesday's tri-meet against Cathedral Catholic and Westview High.
On top of the podium were Casey Williams, Robert Luttrell, Shannon Wang, Sujith Nalabolu, Kelly Harris, Thomas Thomas, Lenny Cheah, Jacqueline Avis, Charlie Bridgeman, Skylar Wiggins, Chris Kafka, Karolina Witczak,
and
Tara Kezic. Williams'
times in the 200Yd Free and 100Yd Fly were both
CIF-C. The JV teams remain undefeated this season.
Diver Ryan Gerard's score of 225.50 broke the school's old 1-meter
record (189.95) set by Gerard in 2008.

TPHS @MVHS Invitational Congratulations to the TPHS swim
teams for their performances this past weekend.
The women finished a strong 5th among 40 teams at the MVHS Invitational.
Kelsey Kafka's time of 1:07.04 in
the Women's 100Yd Breast garnered the team's top podium finish. The Men placed 10th with the help of
Jonathan Wang's 1st place
in the Men's 100Yd Breast. Wang's time of :59.45 broke the school's old record (:59.65) set by Cody Miller in 2008. Way to go, Falcons!

years. Several swimmers obtained CIF automatic

The Varsity Women trounced the defending CIF
Champions. Many swimmers obtained CIF automatic
qualifying times. Anique Hermann
clocked double wins in both the 50 and 100 Free.
Several
impressive swims came from freshman Kelsey
Kafka, Margaret Guo, McKenna Garfein and Ariel
Jordan.
For the Varsity Women's relays, the team
of Jordan, Kafka, Ali Paris and
Nicole Skaggs placed first in
the 200 Medley; the team of
Hermann, Guo, Paris and
Allison
de Peralta won the 200 Free; and the
team of Guo, Hermann,
Skaggs, de Peralta also topped
the podium for the 400 Free.
JV Men
In a tough meet, the JV Menwere victorious by
10 points. Outstanding swims were performed by

Karaoglanov.
JV Women
The JV Women also overwhelmingly defeated Carlsbad. Several
outstanding swimmers include Hari Maggs,
Emily Morgan, and Melissa
Mubaraki.

5/20/09
Personal
best times were achieved by all the boys
participating in CIFs. Mac Groot placed 2nd
overall in the 100 back, and the consistent
teamwork in the relays earned them a 3rd place
finish in the 200 Free Relay, and 4th in the 400
Free Relay. Torrey Pines girls (1:46.72) trimmed
a quarter-second off their record (1:46.97) from
2007 in the 200 Medley. Jessica Schmitt
almost cracked
the two-minute mark in the 200 IM (2:00:16)
while breaking her old record (2:00:94) set in
2007. She also won the 100 breaststroke
(1:01.85), just off the mark (1:01.77) set by
Carlsbad's Staci Stitts in 1998.

Both the Girls and Boys teams again showed their
depth and breath in swimming, by claiming the
Avocado League Championships and proudly
bringing home the team trophies.

records in her two individual events and helped
the girls team set two relay records as well.

Canyon Fast swims and a strong showing by both
